Reece Rasmussen grew up in the Arabian horse show community. The son of noted Pacific Northwest Arabian horse trainer Pete Rasmussen, Reece was working with horses at age 7 or 8 and in the show ring as a Walk-Trot competitor at 10. A successful youth exhibitor with Western, English and Hunter horses, as well as Pleasure Driving, Reece was Canadian National Champion Western Pleasure JTR in 2018. The following year at Canadian Nationals, Reece presented the Reserve National Champion Two-Year-Old Halter Gelding in open competition. Last year Reece presented the 2023 Canadian National Champion Senior Halter Stallion,
Anarchy WA to his unanimous title.
“After several years of focusing on handling Halter horses for Arabian show barns in the Scottsdale, Arizona area, I am now very pleased to join R O Lervick Arabians in Stanwood, Washington,” Reece confides happily. “Dennis Wigren called last Spring and gave me the opportunity I’ve been waiting for to work with Arabian show horses in all manner of
Halter and performance.”
Reece continued on to praise the Internationally famous Arabian horse breeding program at R O Lervick and to say how pleased he is to be working with both client and Lervick horses now at the farm.
“I am riding, long lining, and schooling young horses … everything I’ve been wanting to do,” Reece laughs. “Dennis and I leave for the Scottsdale show on February 8th with 11 horses. I am looking forward to showing there in a few weeks.”
“I can’t say enough about how pleased we are at R O Lervick’s to have Reece join our team,” says Dennis Wigren, Lervick Trainer and Farm Manager. “He’s talented, enthusiastic and a very hard worker. Everything the farm has been looking
for in a trainer.”
Mariya Haslam started with R O Lervick Arabians about four years ago. She began as a groom and progressed steadily into training and breeding assistance. Last year she was R O Lervick Arabians Breeding Manager, and she began working with young horses as well, teaching ground manners, training the two-year-olds to long lines, and horses under saddle.
Raised near Sun Valley, Idaho, Mariya started her saddle work with PATH, Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, assisting with lessons. This afforded her the opportunity to ride a variety of breeds and disciplines. As she grew more experienced, she rode Warmbloods in Dressage and Hunter-Jumper and continued throughout her early teens in these disciplines. Naturally, she appreciates and has experience in forward seat riding, making her an excellent fit for those R O Lervick horses suitable for Arabian and Half-Arabian Hunter Pleasure competition.
Currently, Mariya is working with approximately 17 Lervick and client-owned horses. This group includes 3 newly brought-in weanlings, several yearlings and some two-year-olds. Additionally, she rides about 7 horses daily. Mariya alternates between assisting at the shows with the Lervick show string and “holding down the fort” at Lervick’s home farm in Stanwood, Washington.
“I’m fortunate to be working with experienced, respected horsemen,” Mariya notes. “I grow, thrive, and learn every day at the farm with great mentors and teachers like Mike Boggs and Dennis Wigren. I’m happy and grateful to be a part of the Lervick Arabians team.”
